9th December 2016 (Friday) – Eden to Batemans Bay
Eden to Batemans Bay
We started the trip along the coast route passing along Ben Boyd National Park and through the small port of Meribula. The next part of the journey up to Kalaru was through forests, where there are very limited views of the countryside. We thus decided to travel inland through Bega and along Princes Highway. This led us through fertile rolling hills with the appearance, in part, of an alpine landscape.

We stopped in Narooma a quaint small coastal town with a history going back to 1835. The town was named was Noorooma, an Aboriginal word for “blue water”. In 1886 the postmaster mispelt the name as Narooma and over time this name stuck,
Naromma
Just before Batemans Bay one arrives in Mogo,
which was established during the rush after a gold find was reported in 1851. The
last gold mine in the Mogo area closed in 1984.
Our meal in the evening in Batemans Bay was at a
great little Thai restaurant, which was empty when we arrived but within an
hour it was very busy.
