15th December 2016 (Thursday) – Yamba to Hope Island
Yamba to Byron Bay
We had a fairly easy trip up from Yamba to Hope
Island taking a slight detour through Ballina and Byron Bay. Byron Bay is populated by a mixture of backpacker
and well off tourists.
At Lennox Head just after Ballina, as we were
driving along the Byron Bay, we stopped to take in the view and photograph the bay. I got interested in a group of guys hang gliding off the cliff and discovered that I could take a 25 minute flight with them. Sheila
suggested I should take an early Christmas present so signed up and took the
opportunity.

The launch was quite simple and just a single
step off the cliff face. The flight was
great and quite relaxing with the occasional g-force experience as we banked to
turn. There was a GoPro camera strapped to the frame that captured the flight -
I might attempt to get it on YouTube at some point.
Coming into land
We arrived in Hope Island at my cousin's house,
which has a beautiful setting on the river with views of a small number of yachts moored in the river. We had some tea and then headed off to
Sanctuary Cove Marina for a special Christmas Carol event. The boats in the
marina and the houses around it are in the $1M+ bracket.
